Volunteers Needed – Want to Get Involved?

BECOME A COACH OR VOLUNTEER AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The mission of the First Tee of Greater Wilmington is to Impact, influence and inspire the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character and citizenship, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices.

In 2019, we impacted over 15,000 students in 16 New Hanover and 6 Duplin County public elementary schools and engaged about 500 participants in our After-School & Saturday programs with the assistance of 85 volunteers. We have also delivered The First Tee Life Skills Experience to over 500 participants from various area youth serving organizations such as: The Brigade Boys & Girls Club, Community Boys and Girl’s Club, YMCA, YWCA and GLOW Academy.

Our children are growing up in a challenging time and need mentors to help them make healthy choices.  If you have a passion for helping our youth choose the correct path, then we need your help! Without caring mentors, positive youth development just doesn’t happen. At The First Tee, we take coaching seriously. We believe that a meaningful, quality relationship between coach and participant is vital to our program.

With busy lives we understand that it can be a challenge to find the time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are enormous and not only to the First Tee, but to you as well!  The right volunteer activity can help you meet new friends, interact with the community and, learn new skills. To follow are four great benefits to volunteering that may surprise you!

  • Volunteering helps counteract the effects of stress, depression, and anxiety.
  • Volunteering increases self-confidence.
  • Volunteering provides a sense of purpose.
  • Volunteering helps you stay physically and mentally healthy.
Children don’t care what a coach knows until they know a coach cares.
